Pour over coffee is a method that allows you to control every aspect of the brewing process, resulting in a clean and flavorful cup of coffee. In this guide, we'll take you through the steps of brewing coffee using a pour over method, so you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee at home.

What You'll Need:

  1. Pour over cone (such as Hario V60 or Chemex)

  2. Paper filter

  3. Freshly ground coffee beans

  4. Kettle

  5. Scale

  6. Timer

  7. Mug

Step 1: Heat Water

  • Heat water to just below boiling, around 200°F (93°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Filter

  • Place the paper filter in the pour over cone and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste and preheat the cone. Discard the rinse water.

Step 3: Measure and Grind Coffee

  • Measure out 25 grams of coffee beans for every 400 grams of water you'll be using. Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio based on your taste preference.

  • Grind the coffee beans to a medium-fine consistency, similar to table salt.

Step 4: Bloom the Coffee

  • Place the pour over cone on top of your mug and add the ground coffee.

  • Start your timer and slowly pour just enough water to saturate the coffee grounds, allowing them to bloom for 30 seconds.

Step 5: Pour Over

  • After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards.

  • Use the scale to maintain the total weight of water and coffee, pouring in stages to keep the water level consistent.

  • Aim to complete the pour in about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  • Once all the water has passed through the filter, remove the pour over cone and discard the grounds.

  • Pour the brewed coffee into your mug and savor the rich, flavorful cup you've brewed.
